Dipped Chocolate Biscuits with Toppings
These biscuits were a big hit here this weekend and would be a great addition to a children's party. The only limit to the toppings is your imagination! The original recipe used Almond Bark for dipping but I don't think that it is available in the UK so I just used milk and white chocolate.Just take some care when melting the white chocolate as it will only tolerate a very gentle heat in a bain-marie to melt it, do not try to rush it! I had a complete disaster melting white chocolate recently, it goes grainy and lumpy if overheated and is unusable.
Ingredients:
8ounces of salted butter, slightly softened.
1 cup icing sugar
1 whole egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
3/4 teaspoons salt
4 ounces of white chocolate
4 ounces of milk chocolate
peanuts, finely chopped
m&ms, finely chopped
hundreds and thousands
To make the biscuits:
Preheat the oven to 190c. Line baking trays with greaseproof paper.
1.Cream the butter with the icing sugar.
2.Add the egg and vanilla and mix to combine.
3.Add the flour, cocoa powder and salt, and mix together until the dough comes together.
4.Place cling film on the surface of the dough and place in fridge for 2 hours.
5.Roll out the dough and cut out the biscuits using a rectangular cutter re-rolling the scraps in order to use as much of the dough as possible.
6.Place the biscuits onto the prepared trays.
7.Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, in batches if necessary.
8.Remove from the oven, and place on a rack to cool.
9. Melt the milk and white chocolate in two separate bowls in a bain-marie over the hob.
10. Dip half of each biscuit into either the white or milk chocolate, then sprinkle or press toppings from each of your toppings into the chocolate dipped side of each biscuits.
11. Set onto greaseproof paper and allow to cool before serving.
